Rep Akinlayo Kolawole Facilitates ₦1bn in Ekiti Projects; Lawmaker Explains How He Turned ₦200m Allocation into Massive Infrastructure Boost
A federal lawmaker from Ekiti State has set the record straight regarding the controversial “constituency allowance,” while showcasing a billion-naira development portfolio. Hon. Davidson Akinlayo Kolawole, who represents Moba/Ilejemeje/Ido-Osi Federal Constituency, detailed how he has attracted projects worth over ₦1 billion to his people over the last three years.
The APC lawmaker “flipped the script” on the public perception that legislators pocket development funds. Speaking from Abuja, Kolawole clarified that his role is strictly to nominate projects, not to handle the cash. He revealed that although the official budget for his constituency projects was capped at ₦200 million, he found a “Solution” to the funding gap by aggressively lobbying federal agencies and securing partnerships with the World Bank. This proactive approach has brought a significant facelift to rural connectivity and public services in Ekiti North.
The impact of this ₦1 billion intervention is visible across several sectors. From the remodeling of hospitals in Iye and Otun-Ekiti to the installation of solar streetlights and the provision of transformers, the lawmaker stated that his goal is to complement the “Renewed Hope” agenda of Governor Biodun Oyebanji. In the education sector, over 750 students have benefited from his scholarship schemes, while schools like Ikosun Comprehensive High have seen major structural renovations.
Beyond physical buildings, Kolawole emphasized human capital, noting that he has facilitated jobs for over 30 constituents and is currently pushing a bill to establish a new Federal School of Nursing in Ido-Ekiti. As political discussions begin to shift toward the next election cycle, the lawmaker maintained that his focus remains on “tangible impact rather than political patronage,” promising to continue maximizing federal opportunities to uplift the living standards of his people.
