Youth Ministry and NDLEA Join Forces to Save Nigerian Youths from Drug Scourge

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have resolved to strengthen their operational partnership in an aggressive push to stem the rising tide of substance abuse among young Nigerians.

During a strategic visit by an NDLEA delegation to the Ministry of Youth Development, Permanent Secretary Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro underscored the urgent need for synchronized government action. She noted that curbing drug misuse requires a unified front combining preventive education, early intervention, and structured rehabilitation programs tailored for young demographics.

As part of immediate joint measures, the ministry has formally invited the anti-narcotics agency to lead educational campaigns at its nationwide Youth Confabs scheduled for October 2026. Additionally, officials highlighted plans to introduce drug education and screening protocols for new recruits joining the public civil service to foster a healthy workforce.

Speaking on behalf of the NDLEA leadership, Assistant Commander General of Narcotics Muhammed Bashir Ibrahim stressed that substance abuse severely undermines youth productivity and national growth.
