Wike’s Peace Committee Assures Fubara’s Camp of Fair Treatment as Rivers Crisis Ebbs

In a major step toward ending the long-standing political tension in Rivers State, the peace committee set up to reconcile rival political camps has guaranteed that no stakeholder will face victimisation or punishment for past loyalties.

The assurance came during a second high-level peace meeting in two weeks between members of the Reconciliation Committee of the Rainbow Coalition and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt. Speaking after the closed-door session, Committee Chairman Senator Magnus Abe declared that all members—regardless of which side they supported during the recent feud—will be treated as equal and respected partners in the restored political family.

The reconciliation committee was originally constituted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike. The coalition brings together political figures across the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and allied political structures to restore stability and political harmony across the state.

Abe emphasized that significant progress has been made on the ground rules for total reconciliation, noting that the update will offer huge relief to Rivers residents who have longed for political peace. Echoing his sentiments, APC South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary Dr. Samuel Nwanosike and party chieftain Chief Ambrose Nwuzi praised Governor Fubara for opening his doors to dialogue, confirming that key stakeholders have agreed to put personal differences aside to deliver the benefits of democracy to the people.
