David Umahi Questions Peter Obi’s Presidential Aspirations, Urges Support for Tinubu

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has dismissed the presidential ambitions of Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State. Umahi questioned Obi’s qualifications compared to other well-known politicians from the South-East, including himself. He stated that the South-East currently lacks a presidential candidate for the 2027 elections and urged the region to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election instead.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Abakaliki, Umahi argued that backing Tinubu for another four years would enhance the South-East’s chances of securing the presidency in the future. He called on religious and traditional leaders in the region to openly support Tinubu and warned against remaining neutral as the elections approach.

Umahi emphasized the importance of unity and strategic decision-making for the South-East. He criticized the notion that an Igbo person would seek the presidency for just four years, suggesting that such a short term would not be accepted. He also pointed out that the North has not accepted a similar arrangement.

During his address, Umahi highlighted the political inclusion the South-East has experienced under Tinubu’s leadership, citing key appointments and ongoing infrastructure projects as evidence of progress. He encouraged the region to prioritize its political interests and avoid divisive rhetoric surrounding the upcoming elections.
