Trump Launches ‘Super Intelligence Force’ to Manage AI Policy
President Donald Trump has announced a new group called the “Super Intelligence Force” to oversee how the U.S. government engages with artificial intelligence (AI). This taskforce will help ensure the country remains a leader in AI technology.
The Super Intelligence Force will be led by Jay Clayton, the Director of National Intelligence. It will report directly to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The group will work with consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers, and companies developing AI.
Trump made this announcement on Sunday. He emphasized that the taskforce would coordinate the federal government’s efforts regarding AI. The group will also include several key officials, such as Andrew Ferguson, chair of the Federal Trade Commission, and Emil Michael, Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.
This move comes as discussions grow in the U.S. about how to regulate AI technology. Many tech leaders and former officials have raised concerns about safety. Previously, Trump had allowed AI companies to self-regulate but recently agreed to establish a board for AI safety after major tech executives signed a regulation agreement.
On September 29, Trump signed an executive order to change the term “artificial intelligence” to “Super Intelligence” in all official communications. He criticized the term “artificial” for making the technology seem fake. Some experts have criticized this new terminology, arguing it could cause confusion, while others, like Elon Musk, have embraced it.
The formation of this taskforce comes at a time when AI companies are facing increased scrutiny over safety and the implications of their technology. OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman stated that while there are risks with AI, the potential benefits justify some of those risks.
