Police Enforce Traffic Restrictions and Drone Ban Ahead of Tinubu’s Visit to Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced a ban on drone operations and fireworks in Uyo as part of security measures for President Bola Tinubu’s visit on Friday. The police commissioner, Baba Mohammed Azare, shared these details during a press briefing on Thursday.

Azare stated that the restrictions aim to maintain public order, protect key locations, and ensure the smooth movement of the President’s convoy. He emphasized that there will be a total ban on flying drones within Uyo during the visit, urging drone operators and the public to comply.

In addition to the drone ban, fireworks and other loud sound-producing devices will also be prohibited in the state capital. This is intended to prevent panic and allow security personnel to respond effectively to any security threats.

The police have also set temporary restrictions on public access to certain routes and locations in Uyo to facilitate the President’s movements. Affected areas include Airport Road, Shelter Afrique Junction, and Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys carefully, exercise patience, and cooperate with traffic and security personnel. The police commissioner reassured residents that these temporary measures are necessary for security and are not meant to cause inconvenience.

During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to inaugurate several major infrastructure projects under Governor Umo Eno’s administration. These projects include an international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport, various road improvements, and a new Command and Control Centre for security coordination.
