Tinubu Celebrates Entry into Global Energy Council, Promises to Lead Africa’s Power Voice

President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Nigeria’s formal admission as the newest member of the World Energy Council (WEC), describing the milestone as a major global endorsement of the country’s ongoing energy reforms.

The admission places Nigeria within a century-old global network spanning more than 100 countries, giving the nation a direct platform to shape international discussions on energy security, sustainability, and equitable transition.

Commending the development in a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria joined the global body to lead rather than merely participate, ensuring that African priorities actively influence international energy policy decisions.

The President also congratulated the newly appointed inaugural leadership of WEC Nigeria, which features industrialist Abdulrazaq Isa as Chairman and energy strategist Bala Wunti as Chief Executive Officer.

Extending accolades to the leadership team, President Tinubu described Isa as a pioneering industrialist whose investments in local refining have expanded frontiers for domestic enterprise. He similarly commended Wunti for over three decades of dedicated service, noting that his reform initiatives have significantly boosted national revenues and restored investor confidence across the energy sector.

The President highlighted that the new board combines seasoned operators, regulatory leaders, financial experts, and young innovators, providing the platform with the balance, neutrality, and credibility required to succeed.

Reaffirming the administration’s support, President Tinubu assured that the Federal Government will leverage WEC Nigeria as a neutral, technology-driven venue to mobilize private capital, foster innovation, and secure sustainable energy solutions for the nation.
