Super Eagles Comeback to Draw 3-3 with Russia in Friendly Match

The Super Eagles of Nigeria managed to come back from two goals down to draw 3-3 with Russia in a friendly match on Tuesday. This game took place at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, following a disappointing 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last week.

Nigeria started the match strong, taking the lead just ten minutes in with a goal from Kelechi Iheanacho. However, Russia quickly responded, equalizing in the 30th minute through Lechi Sadulaev after a mistake by the Nigerian defense. Just before halftime, Matvey Kislyak scored, putting Russia ahead 2-1.

In the second half, the Russians extended their lead to 3-1 with a goal from Aleksey Miranchuk in the 54th minute. Despite the challenges, the Super Eagles fought back. Osayande Edokpolor scored a stunning goal in the 78th minute, giving Nigeria hope.

In a dramatic finish, Akor Adams scored in the 94th minute, completing the comeback and securing a draw for Nigeria. This match featured nine players making their Super Eagles debut, highlighting the team’s youthful lineup due to several absences from injuries and club commitments.

Coach Éric Chelle faced a tough task with a weakened squad, but the team’s resilience shone through. The Super Eagles will next be in action in November for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
