Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, spoke on Monday at the first Seyi Tinubu Colloquium in Lagos. He emphasized that his father’s administration is addressing the challenges it inherited to benefit younger Nigerians and future generations.
During the event, themed “Shaping the Future Together,” Seyi stated, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not choose Nigeria, did not choose the Nigeria inherited from his predecessors, yet his administration chose to confront the challenges of our nation.” He noted that the changes are not just for the current generation but are aimed at helping those who come after.
He mentioned key reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, changes to the foreign exchange system, and updates to taxation. While he acknowledged that these changes have been tough on families, he believes the long-term benefits will be significant.
Seyi pointed to improvements in infrastructure and investment as signs of progress. He said new roads and superhighways would connect producers to markets and create job opportunities. He also highlighted renewed investments in power, mining, manufacturing, and agriculture, which he believes will enhance productivity for Nigerian businesses.
He stressed the importance of institutions that improve access to education and credit, stating these will have lasting value beyond any single administration. “A road built today will serve people who are still children,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for sustainable development.
Encouraging young Nigerians to engage in leadership roles, Seyi said it is crucial for today’s decisions to benefit future generations. “We have the responsibility to participate in the leadership and ensure that what is decided today will benefit all of us tomorrow,” he concluded.
