Rogue Soldier Supplying Military Uniforms to Terrorists Nabbed in Maiduguri While Attempting Desperate Escape to Cameroon

A major internal security breach within the military has been neutralized after troops intercepted a renegade soldier who was attempting to flee the country after allegedly supplying combat gear and uniforms to terrorist groups operating in the North-East.

The suspect, identified as Private Mohammed Yusuf (Service Number 23NA/84/1939) of the Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, was tracked down and arrested in Maiduguri by troops of the 7 Provost Group under Operation HADIN KAI. The arrest unfolded at Jidari Bus Stop, where the rogue soldier was making a desperate attempt to board transport heading toward the Cameroonian border.

Yusuf’s trouble began after internal audit checks at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory in Lagos exposed serious leakages of official military accoutrements. Further investigation linked the soldier directly to black-market sales that funneled tactical uniforms and equipment into the hands of criminal syndicates and insurgent fighters.

Realizing that military investigators were closing in on his activities, Yusuf deserted his Lagos post and went underground. He quietly relocated to Borno State, hiding out in the Gomari Costain area within Jere Local Government Area with the help of an accomplice while plotting his escape route out of Nigeria. However, a swift intelligence-led operation caught him before he could cross the border.

“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested a soldier recently declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal elements,” confirmed the Acting Military Information Officer for the theatre, Captain Muhammed Goni. “The arrest underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the Nigerian Army’s firm commitment to holding personnel accountable for actions that undermine military ethics, discipline, and national security. There is no safe haven for individuals who support terrorism, irrespective of their status.”

The suspect remains held in close custody at the 7 Provost Group headquarters, where interrogators are currently pulling apart his operational trail to identify corrupt military associates or civilian middle-men involved in the illegal arms and uniform trade. High-ranking military commanders reassured the public that the armed forces remain resolute in purging their ranks of internal saboteurs and maintaining total integrity across all ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
