Osun Governor Calls Security Meeting Amid Rising Cult Violence

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called a meeting with heads of security agencies in response to recent violence from rival cult groups in the state. This meeting is set to take place on Wednesday.

Samuel Ojo, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, shared details about the meeting during an interview. He noted that the discussions will focus on the recent killings attributed to suspected cultists and will also explore ways to enhance safety in the state’s forests.

Ojo emphasized the importance of this meeting, stating that it aims to reassure the public and ensure that security agencies remain vigilant. He pointed out that a recent incident in Ondo State, where an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) leader was killed, serves as a warning to criminals hiding in forests.

He said, “We need to meet and discuss how to stop these killings by cult groups or any other violent crimes hiding under that canopy.” The governor’s aide stressed the need to address these issues to protect Osun’s reputation.

Recent attacks in Osogbo, the state capital, have resulted in two deaths and several injuries. In response, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered tactical teams to search for suspected criminals in the area.
