Traditional Ruler of Idogun Passes Away After Collapsing and 24-Hour Coma
Oba Moses Ekundayo Bakare, the traditional ruler of Idogun in Ondo State, has died. He collapsed on Wednesday and was taken to a hospital, where he remained in a coma for 24 hours before passing away on Thursday evening.
This tragic event follows a crisis in the community that began in October 2025, when some residents assaulted the monarch in an incident that went viral. After this incident, he left the town and did not return until his death.
The Ondo State government had set up a panel to investigate the crisis, but the findings have not yet been released. Idowu Ajanaku, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, confirmed the king’s death and extended condolences to his family and the Idogun community.
Ajanaku urged the people of Idogun to keep the peace and avoid violence during this mourning period. However, reports indicate that some residents opposed to the late monarch blocked the road with logs, preventing his body from being brought back to the community. This forced the transporters to return the body to a mortuary in Owo.
