Onanuga Defends Tinubu’s Economic Policies, Cites Support from 33 Governors

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has defended the President’s economic performance. He pointed out that 33 governors support Tinubu, suggesting this is a strong endorsement of his policies.

Onanuga made these comments in a post on Friday, responding to a video from Arise TV that featured Obafemi George, a member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council. He criticized TV hosts for suggesting that Nigeria’s economy has not improved since Tinubu took office in 2023.

He argued that the anchors are promoting the opposition’s view that there has been no positive change. Onanuga claimed that food prices have decreased, mentioning that the price of a bag of rice has dropped significantly, from around N120,000 to below N50,000.

According to Onanuga, Nigeria’s foreign reserves are nearing $60 billion, and businesses now have better access to foreign exchange. He also noted that Nigerians can use naira cards abroad, which he sees as a sign of economic progress.

He dismissed claims that returning investors are only interested in quick profits, stating that foreign direct investment is bringing in capital and creating jobs. Onanuga concluded by saying that these improvements are evident to anyone who is not biased against the President.
