The Ogun State government has scheduled the groundbreaking ceremony for its Deep-Sea Port for November 2026. Construction is expected to start before the end of this year and be completed by 2030.
Governor Dapo Abiodun announced this plan during a meeting with All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Ibiade, located in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area. He emphasized that the port will create a welcoming environment for large investments.
Abiodun highlighted that the development of the Deep-Sea Port and related projects could generate over 50,000 direct jobs. He encouraged local youth to develop skills that will help them take advantage of the upcoming opportunities.
The Governor also mentioned that the port will enhance Ogun’s industrial reputation and its strategic location along the Lagos-Ogun economic corridor. He pointed out that Ogun Waterside is vital to the state, with 126 polling units and around 62,000 registered voters.
In addition to the port, Abiodun approved the construction of the J4-Gao Road to improve infrastructure in the area. This road will support new investments and has been long overdue, according to the Governor.
Furthermore, the Federal Government has approved a four-kilometer bridge to connect Ogun Waterside to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. This infrastructure is expected to boost access and support the planned investments.
Abiodun expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for backing the port project and other initiatives. He urged residents and APC members to stay united and support the party as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
