Ogun Police Recognized at NUJ’s 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Ogun State Police Command was honored with three awards at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Golden Jubilee Press Week, celebrating 50 years of the Union in Ogun State. The event took place from October 26 to November 1, 2026, and coincided with the 50th anniversary of Ogun State itself.

During the celebration, the Command received the Shield of Public Safety Award. The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, was named a Golden Jubilee Ambassador, and the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, received the Vanguard of Public Safety Award.

The week-long event aimed to strengthen the relationship between the police and the media, highlighting the importance of public safety and trust. A key moment included a panel discussion where Ojajuni emphasized the need for responsible journalism and professional ethics.

Ojajuni credited the Command’s achievements to the strategic direction of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, particularly through a joint operation called Operation KOSAYE. This operation involved collaboration between the Ogun and Lagos State Police Commands and aimed to improve security across state lines.

In addition to the awards, Ojajuni and Babaseyi were recognized for their leadership and contributions to public safety and police-community communication. Ojajuni dedicated the honors to the Inspector-General of Police and all officers of the Nigeria Police Force for their dedication to protecting lives and property.

The Ogun State Police Command expressed gratitude to the NUJ Ogun State Council for the recognition and reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong partnership with the media. They believe that effective policing goes beyond operations and relies on public trust and collaboration with community stakeholders.
