Nigeria’s Flamingos Reach FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Semi-Finals After Win Over Venezuela
Nigeria’s Flamingos have advanced to the semi-finals of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Venezuela 1-0 on Sunday night. Azeezatt Oduntan scored the winning goal with a penalty kick in the final minute of the match.
The quarter-final match was intense, with Nigeria creating many chances but struggling to score due to strong saves from Venezuela’s goalkeeper, Valeria Rebanales. The Flamingos dominated the first half but could not find the back of the net.
Midfielder Favour Nkwocha received a yellow card as Nigeria continued to press for a goal. Head Coach Hakeem Busari made a substitution, bringing in Precious Oscar to replace Oluwakemi Adegbuyi in an effort to break the deadlock.
The breakthrough came in the 88th minute when the referee awarded Nigeria a penalty. After a review using video technology, the penalty was confirmed. Oduntan stepped up and successfully converted the penalty, securing the victory for Nigeria.
This win sends the Flamingos into the semi-finals, where they will face Brazil, who won their quarter-final match against China 2-1.
