Nigerians Can Check Phone Approval Status Using USSD Code *315#
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has introduced a USSD code, *315#, for Nigerians to check if their mobile phones and other devices are approved for use on local networks. This service, called the NCC Device Checker, is especially useful for people buying second-hand phones or imported devices.
To use the service, consumers can dial *315# on the device they want to check. They will receive prompts to follow, which will help them confirm if their device is approved for Nigerian mobile networks. Alternatively, users can verify their devices online at www.ncc.gov.ng/devicechecker.
The NCC’s initiative aims to protect consumers and ensure that devices meet necessary standards before being used in Nigeria. This includes smartphones, tablets, modems, and other SIM-enabled devices. The NCC warns that devices not approved may be denied access to mobile networks.
If a device does not pass the verification process, the NCC advises users not to assume it is counterfeit. Instead, they should follow the instructions given and reach out to their seller or mobile network provider for help. The NCC also provides a toll-free support number, 315, for users needing assistance.
Before buying any device, especially second-hand or imported ones, the NCC recommends checking its approval status. While sellers should ensure compliance, buyers can use the Device Checker to confirm before completing their purchase.
