Nigeria Releases Approved Textbooks for Schools for 2026-2028

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the final list of approved textbooks for schools to be used during the 2026–2028 academic session. This information was shared by the Federal Ministry of Education on Monday.

The approved textbooks cover various grades, including Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School (JSS) 1, and Senior Secondary School (SSS) 1. Each textbook has a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code that includes important details like the title, author(s), publisher, and year of publication.

The introduction of these tracking codes aims to improve the identification and monitoring of the approved textbooks. It is part of an effort to ensure accountability in how these instructional materials are used in schools.

The ranking exercise was overseen by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad. The ministry noted that the process took extra time to complete due to the addition of tracking codes, which are meant to enhance transparency in the selection and use of textbooks.

The ministry plans to conduct the ranking exercise in phases. The next phase will include textbooks for Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2, and SSS 2, and similar tracking measures will be applied.

Education stakeholders, including publishers and schools, are encouraged to refer to the approved list when selecting textbooks. This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that students and teachers have access to quality educational materials that align with the curriculum.
