Nigeria Among 20 African Nations Earmarked with Voting Rights for the 2026 Ballon d’Or

Nigeria has secured its place among the exclusive group of African nations with official voting rights for the upcoming 2026 Ballon d’Or, cementing its representation on the global football governance and awards landscape.

According to the official selection criteria released by organizers France Football and L’Équipe, the jury for the men’s prize is composed of specialized sports journalists representing the top 100 countries in the FIFA men’s world rankings. Nigeria, positioned at 26th globally, comfortably meets the threshold, earning a dedicated seat on the international voting panel.

The country joins a select contingent of 20 African nations granted voting privileges for this edition, a roster that features continental powerhouses such as Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.

The designated Nigerian media representative will join fellow international jurors in reviewing the 30-man shortlist which features global stars and African standouts like Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Senegal’s Sadio Mané to cast ballots based on individual and collective exploits throughout the 2025/26 season. The final winners will be unveiled during the high-profile awards gala scheduled to take place in London.
