NDLEA Seizes Over 10 Tonnes of Drugs and 40 Firearms in Kogi State
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported a major crackdown in Kogi State, leading to the recovery of over 10 tonnes of illegal drugs and 40 firearms since late 2025. These operations were aimed at tackling drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the region.
During a press conference in Lokoja, Kogi’s NDLEA Commander, Mr. Umar Yahuza, explained that the seized firearms included five pistols and 35 other types of guns. A total of 874 rounds of ammunition were also found. Many suspects have been arrested and are currently facing trial at the Federal High Court in Lokoja.
Yahuza noted that cannabis sativa was the most commonly seized drug, followed by tramadol, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Some firearms were reportedly found with suspected drug dealers who used them to resist law enforcement during operations.
In addition to drugs and firearms, the NDLEA also recovered counterfeit money and fake pharmaceutical products. These items have been handed over to the appropriate government agencies for further investigation.
The NDLEA emphasized the importance of cooperation among security agencies in fighting crime. Yahuza encouraged the public to share any information that could help in identifying and capturing criminals, warning against supporting illegal activities.
Retired Commander Jerry Omodara, Kogi State’s Security Adviser, praised the NDLEA for its efforts in enhancing safety in the area. He stated that the state government is committed to a strict approach against insecurity and is working on improving intelligence sharing and joint operations among security forces.
Omodara also mentioned ongoing efforts to recover more weapons from criminals hiding in forests and called for increased federal support for security operations in the North-Central region. He assured residents that security measures are being put in place for the upcoming local government elections to ensure a peaceful process.
