Military Buries Brig. Gen. Braimah and Fallen Soldiers in Emotional Maiduguri Ceremony; Zulum and Defence Chiefs Vow to Crush Insurgents After Deadly Benisheikh Ambush
The nation stood still on today, as the Nigerian Army “flipped the script” from active combat to a day of deep mourning and national reflection. In a “Tsunami” of grief that swept through the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and his fellow soldiers were laid to rest. The “Solution” to the insurgency they fought so hard against was once again paid for in the most expensive currency: the lives of its finest officers.
The “Drill or Drop” reality of the frontline was laid bare as the flag-draped coffins of General Braimah, Captain Ismail, and others were lowered into the earth. They were the victims of a daring April 9 assault on the Benisheikh military base, where terrorists “tinkered” with the security perimeter under the cover of darkness. While the military successfully repelled the breach and killed several insurgents, the loss of a Brigadier General has sent a “Renewed Hope” shockwave through the “digital trenches” of the Nigerian security apparatus.
Governor Babagana Zulum, visibly moved, told the gathered dignitaries that the death of General Braimah is a “painful reminder of the heavy price of peace.” He joined the Minister of Defence and other top brass in promising that the sacrifice would not be in vain. The “script” for 2026 remains one of aggressive operations, but today, the focus was entirely on the families left behind, whose tears underscored the profound human cost of the ongoing war in the Northeast.
As the 2027 political cycle begins to pick up pace, the Presidency has reiterated that the safety of the nation remains the “primary target” of the administration. For the troops remaining in the field, the message from today’s burial is one of solidarity: the army may lose its leaders, but it will never lose its resolve. General Braimah’s name will now be “etched in the nation’s history” as a symbol of the courage required to stand firm when the “Tsunami” of terror arrives at the gate.
