Police and Military Deployed to Niger State Following Coordinated Rescue Orders After Mass Abduction of Over 100 Residents

Joint tactical teams comprising the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force have been heavily deployed to troubled rural communities in Niger State following a massive coordinated rescue effort launched to free over 100 residents abducted by suspected bandits.

The security mobilization comes on the heels of violent raids across communities in the Borgu Local Government Area, where armed groups launched simultaneous attacks on settlements and local mosques, taking scores of women, children, and villagers hostage.

Following the security breach, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu issued an uncompromising directive to the Armed Forces, the police, and intelligence agencies, demanding an immediate, unyielding rescue operation to ensure the safe return of all captives. The Presidency condemned the attacks as the acts of “enemies of peace and humanity,” directing service chiefs to provide continuous updates until the situation is fully resolved.

According to security updates from the region, combined military columns and police detachments have commenced aggressive clearance operations along difficult-to-reach forest corridors and border fringes near the Kainji Lake National Park, which the attackers have historically exploited as mobility routes.

While local authorities and emergency evaluators continue to piece together precise casualty and victim metrics due to the scale of displacement with some fleeing families crossing toward border enclaves ground troops have taken up strategic blocking positions.
