Malami Criticizes Attacks on ADC Campaign in Kebbi State
Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of Nigeria, has spoken out against reported attacks on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during their campaign kickoff in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State. Malami, who is also the ADC’s candidate for governor in the state, made his remarks following the event on November 5.
In a statement released by his media assistant, Malami thanked the local residents for their strong support for the ADC and its leadership, particularly for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. He noted that the large turnout showed the people’s desire for a better future.
Malami praised Atiku’s leadership and emphasized the party’s commitment to addressing critical issues like rising fuel prices, insecurity, and unemployment. He outlined his goals for Kebbi, which include improving agriculture, education, healthcare, and youth opportunities.
Despite the positive atmosphere, Malami expressed concern about reports of violence against campaign members, including damage to media equipment and the use of tear gas against the convoy. He called for an investigation into any involvement by government or security forces, stating that such actions are unacceptable.
He also condemned the demolition of the Malami Pressure Group headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, questioning the government’s claims that it was due to a private dispute. Malami insisted that political differences should not lead to intimidation or property destruction.
Malami urged the state government and security agencies to respect citizens’ rights to free speech and peaceful assembly. He highlighted ongoing challenges in Kebbi, such as banditry and food insecurity, and called for a focus on protecting farmers and providing education and job opportunities for youth.
He encouraged ADC supporters to remain peaceful and disciplined, advocating for democratic change through lawful means and respect for the rule of law.
