LASTMA Responds to Over 1,400 Traffic Crashes, Rescues 670 Victims in Nine Months
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that it responded to 1,409 traffic crashes in the last nine months. During this time, the agency rescued 670 victims from these accidents.
Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson for LASTMA, highlighted the agency’s commitment to reducing accidents and improving response times on Lagos roads. He explained that LASTMA staff are regularly sent to accident scenes to assess the situation, help victims, manage traffic, and prevent further accidents.
Taofiq pointed out that these efforts not only help those involved in crashes but also ease traffic congestion and allow emergency services to reach the scene quickly. He emphasized the humanitarian role of LASTMA in rescuing accident victims.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, reiterated the agency’s focus on improving its response capabilities and educating the public about road safety. He stressed the importance of reporting accidents quickly and working together with other agencies to lower the number of casualties.
Bakare-Oki urged drivers to follow speed limits, obey traffic signals, wear seat belts, and avoid distractions while driving. He also called on all road users, including pedestrians, to be vigilant and report any accidents or road issues to LASTMA using their toll-free number, 3367.
