Lagos Taskforce Raids Lagos Island, Seizes 66 Bikes and Warns Passengers Face Arrest Next

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) has impounded 66 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okadas, during a targeted enforcement sweep across key corridors on Lagos Island.

The enforcement operation, led by Taskforce Chairman Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Adetayo Akerele, was executed to curb illegal commercial motorcycle operations that disrupt traffic and pose security threats along major transport arteries.

According to a statement released by the agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, tactical teams carried out raids across high-traffic hubs, including CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, and the Lagos Coastal Road.

Addressing the crackdown, CSP Akerele noted that while recalcitrant operators continuously attempt to devise new tactics to evade taskforce personnel, the agency is deploying intelligence-driven methods that make illegal operations increasingly difficult.

In a major shift in enforcement policy, the taskforce chairman issued a stern warning that upcoming operations will target both riders and passengers caught violating the law on restricted routes.

Akerele reaffirmed that all 66 impounded motorcycles will be processed for legal forfeiture to the Lagos State Government through the courts in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, assuring residents that patrols will continue until total compliance is restored.
