Kebbi State Starts Building 58km Road and Other Projects to Boost Economy

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has begun the construction and repair of several roads in Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, and Bunza local government areas. This initiative aims to improve agricultural production, transportation, and economic activities in the region.

The projects include the 58-kilometre Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road, along with other roads such as Unguwa Jeji-Gayi–Diggi–Maidahini and access roads in various neighborhoods. These developments were announced during a flag-off ceremony held on Tuesday.

Governor Idris emphasized that these roads will connect communities, facilitate the movement of people and agricultural products, and create new economic opportunities for farmers and traders. He stated, “Improved road infrastructure is essential to economic development because it makes the movement of people, goods, and services easier and more efficient.”

Idris noted that the Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road, although not part of his initial campaign promises, is crucial for the local economy. The project was awarded to M/S China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited, which will be responsible for the construction.

The state Commissioner for Works, Umar Muslim, assured residents that the projects would meet quality standards and that his ministry would oversee the contractors to ensure compliance. He expressed confidence that these roads would enhance transportation, support agricultural growth, and attract private investment.

Muslim highlighted that the improved road infrastructure would not only boost economic activities but also increase the state’s revenue. He believes that the completed roads will strengthen connections among communities and promote sustainable economic growth across Kebbi State.
