Kebbi NDP Candidate Plans Education Reforms and Rural Development Ahead of 2027 Elections
Ahmadu Zumaru, the National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for governor in Kebbi, has announced plans to transform education and boost rural communities in the state. He made these promises during a Candidates Engagement Forum in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
Zumaru stated that his campaign focuses on providing leadership that benefits the people and addresses issues like corruption. He emphasized the need to prioritize education, especially in rural areas facing insecurity, to ensure that children continue learning despite school closures.
He proposed creating alternative learning arrangements for students in remote areas affected by insecurity, saying, “We cannot leave children at home indefinitely while waiting for security to improve.” Zumaru also plans to introduce digital learning and attract qualified teachers to primary schools by improving their working conditions.
To support women, he aims to increase the number of female teachers to 75 percent and promote their rights and participation in society. For rural development, Zumaru suggested a program where local governments would contribute funding alongside the state government to improve infrastructure and job opportunities.
On agriculture, he criticized the late distribution of fertilizer and called for better support for local farmers to boost production. He also wants to revive agricultural initiatives from previous administrations to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
Zumaru highlighted the importance of discipline among youth and proposed establishing guidance and counseling units in schools. He also called for judicial reforms to ensure fair justice delivery in Nigeria.
Regarding security, he supports the idea of state police to better address local issues. He also plans to review mining policies to ensure local communities benefit from resources extracted from their areas.
