Katsina Government Denies Campaign Violence Claims, Investigates Yankara Incident

The Katsina State Government has rejected claims that a recent incident in Yankara was connected to the campaign for Governor Dikko Radda. Officials called these reports false and misleading.

The government stated that the disturbance arose from a disagreement between participants in a Maulud procession and security personnel over the chosen routes for the procession. This led to confusion on a public street in Yankara.

According to the government, Governor Radda traveled through Yankara without any issues while heading to Faskari for a visit. He met with the District Head and other traditional leaders before checking on renovation work at the Local Government secretariat.

Following the visit, he attended a campaign rally in Faskari and engaged with local residents and supporters. The government has urged security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly to identify any responsible parties.

In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Mohammed, encouraged residents to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could lead to further unrest.

Reports indicated that violence erupted in Yankara when suspected attackers targeted supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), injuring several people and damaging a campaign vehicle. Eyewitnesses described the attackers ambushing APC supporters on their way to the rally, which caused panic in the area.
