Joint Security Forces Crush Kidnap Syndicate in Plateau; Two Suspects Nabbed as Operatives Recover ₦8m Ransom and Rescue Abducted Women
A coordinated tactical operation by joint security agencies in Plateau State has resulted in the arrest of a notorious kidnapping duo and the recovery of millions of Naira in illicitly obtained ransom. The breakthrough, which occurred in the Qua’an Pan Local Government Area today, April 25, 2026, marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to secure the state’s border communities and dismantle criminal hideouts within its forest reserves.
The Executive Chairman of the Qua’an Pan Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Christopher Audu Manship, confirmed the development during a formal briefing where the suspects identified as Waltu Watter and Sale Mamma were paraded. According to official reports, the suspects were linked to a brutal assault that claimed the life of a prominent local resident, Alhaji Saidu Mamma. During the attack, the suspects abducted the deceased’s daughter and subsequently extorted ₦8 million from the family.
“We have declared zero tolerance for criminality in this local government,” Dr. Manship stated. “Our security forces acted on credible intelligence to track these individuals to their hideout, where they were apprehended before they could disappear with the ransom money.” In a gesture of administrative accountability, the Chairman oversaw the return of the recovered ₦8 million to the family of the late Alhaji Mamma, emphasizing that the council will not allow the area to be used as a “safe haven” for those committing crimes in Plateau or neighboring Nasarawa State.
The operation yielded a secondary success with the rescue of Mrs. Gambo Bello, who had been kidnapped from Padama, Nasarawa State, and transported across state lines to the Pandam Game Reserve. Mrs. Bello, who spent over a week in captivity, recounted a harrowing ordeal that ended in a fierce gun duel between her captors and the arriving security team. “The security men came and exchanged gunfire with them for several minutes before the kidnappers fled, leaving me behind in the bush,” she told reporters.
The Plateau State government has lauded the professionalism of the joint task force, which comprises military personnel, police, and local vigilantes. As the 2027 political cycle nears, the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the state’s “security architecture,” particularly in transit corridors and forest reserves. The arrested suspects have been transferred to the state capital for further interrogation as investigators seek to uncover potential links to wider kidnapping networks operating along the North-Central axis.
