The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it will publish the final list of candidates for the 2027 governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections on Saturday, October 10, 2026. This information was shared during a press conference in Abuja by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan.
This publication is a significant step in INEC’s preparations for the upcoming elections, as political parties are keen to confirm their candidates for the state-level contests.
INEC also provided updates on various aspects of the election process, including candidate nominations, the voter register, Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), election technology, and funding. A total of 21 out of 22 registered political parties have submitted candidates for the elections, presenting 936 candidates for governorship and deputy governorship positions, along with nearly 10,000 candidates for State House of Assembly seats.
Previously, INEC published the details of the nominated candidates as part of its electoral schedule. The final list will reflect any withdrawals, substitutions, or changes made by the political parties during the nomination period.
Additionally, 18 of the 22 registered political parties have submitted 36 candidates for presidential and vice-presidential positions. The final list for National Assembly candidates was published on September 12, 2026. INEC reiterated that the final list for governorship and State Assembly candidates will be available on October 10, 2026.
