Governor Aiyedatiwa Calls on Alumni to Support Public School Improvements

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is urging former students and education supporters to work with the government to improve public schools in the state. He made this appeal during the 50th anniversary celebration of Omoluorogbo Grammar School in Akure, where he was represented by Mr. Sunday Olajide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Aiyedatiwa emphasized that contributions from alumni are crucial for enhancing the quality of education. He stated that the government alone cannot fully fund education and called on alumni to support their former schools through meaningful contributions.

The governor encouraged old students to reflect on their time at school and consider how they can give back. He believes that a partnership between the government, alumni, and other education stakeholders can help close the gaps in school infrastructure and create better learning environments for students.

Mr. Kayode Akinmade, the Chairman of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, noted that alumni have already made significant investments in the school. He described giving back as both a responsibility and a way to express gratitude for the education they received.

Akinmade shared examples of alumni contributions, including the construction of a new classroom block, renovations of school facilities, and donations of supplies to support students. He also mentioned a Student Support Programme that helps financially disadvantaged students with examination costs.

As public schools in Nigeria face challenges like poor facilities and limited funding, alumni associations are increasingly stepping up to help. Akinmade urged more former students to get involved and invest in their schools, highlighting that such efforts benefit future generations and society as a whole.
