FG Launches Massive Digital Standards Platform to Clean Up Public Procurement and Shield Made-in-Nigeria Goods

The Federal Government has deployed a sweeping technological asset designed to permanently phase out bureaucratic red tape in manufacturing and clean up corruption in public contracts by launching a unified national digital gateway for industrial standards.

The strategic upgrade, officially named the Digital Standards Platform (DSP), was unveiled by the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh. The high-tech deployment is a coordinated effort combining the administrative power of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), and technology consulting firm Goringo. The system places Nigeria’s complete archive of national quality guidelines, compliance checkouts, and official certification registries directly onto an open online portal, removing the barriers of physical queues, paperwork, and location.

In a move that completely alters the rules of corporate engagement with the state, the administration announced that the digital compliance certifications generated by the platform are now a strict, non-negotiable prerequisite for anyone wanting to bid on government contracts. Given that public procurement represents the single largest pool of economic spending in the country, the integration ensures that only verified, standards-compliant local products are selected for massive public works, roads, power projects, and hospital supplies.

Beyond cleaning up government supply lines, the platform is structured to serve as a massive economic shield for domestic industries as the country deepens its commercial footprints inside the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“Quality is the only bridge that turns passing consumer patronage into long-term market preference,” Minister John Owan Enoh emphasized during the grand unveiling. “This is not merely the launch of another technology solution; it is the opening of a completely new chapter in Nigeria’s quality journey. The Nigeria First Policy demands that we look inward with supreme confidence. Made-in-Nigeria must stand globally as a clear mark of premium pride, not just a sacrificial act of patriotism. If our goods fail to meet international benchmarks, our local markets will rapidly become a dumping ground for better foreign alternatives.”

To ensure that small businesses are not crushed by the cost of regulatory compliance, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) built an affordability mechanism into the platform. The Director-General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, revealed that through new, high-level licensing agreements signed with premier international standards organizations, local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can now purchase and adopt global quality blueprints through the portal at up to 35 percent below their standard market acquisition costs.

Furthermore, the Director-General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh, praised the system as a landmark accomplishment, highlighting that it stands as one of the first fully digital Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects delivered under the country’s updated economic optimization guidelines. By removing structural delays, the platform gives local entrepreneurs the precise digital tools they need to upgrade their product quality, step onto the international stage, and outcompete foreign brands on sheer excellence.
