FBRA Collects 3 Tonnes of Recyclables in Lagos and Oyo for World Cleanup Day

The Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA) has successfully collected over 3,000 kilograms of recyclable materials in Lagos and Oyo States as part of its efforts for World Cleanup Day 2026. This initiative involved 419 participants and included community cleanups, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.

In Lagos, specifically in Ikorodu, FBRA recovered about 2,226 kilograms of recyclables with the help of 301 participants. This cleanup was organized in collaboration with Lets Do It Nigeria, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment & Water Resources, and the Lagos Waste Management Authority. Volunteers and local organizations joined forces to collect waste and educate residents on responsible waste disposal.

The Ikorodu cleanup also featured a buyback program, allowing residents to exchange recyclable materials for incentives. This initiative aimed to connect the recovered materials to the formal recycling process, supported by FBRA’s collection partner, Zyntomax.

In Ibadan, Oyo State, FBRA gathered an additional 774 kilograms of recyclables with 118 participants during the Oyo Waste Summit 3.0. Here, FBRA also sponsored a buyback scheme and participated in discussions about sustainable waste management.

FBRA’s Executive Director, Agharese Onaghise, highlighted the importance of creating systems that facilitate the recovery of recyclable materials. Plans are underway to establish a collection center in Ikorodu, making it easier for residents to recycle instead of throwing waste away.

Overall, the combined efforts in Lagos and Oyo reflect FBRA’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s recycling efforts by connecting communities, businesses, and government bodies. The organization aims to show that effective waste management requires both conversation and action.
