Ekuum Cultural Band to Join Carnival Calabar in 2026
Carnival Calabar is set to feature a new cultural group, the Ekuum Cultural Band from Ofutop Nation, at its 2026 event. This band will participate as a non-competing guest, bringing traditional music and cultural performances to the carnival.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ekuum Cultural Band, Engr. Oyama Osam Ntun, announced this during a conversation in Calabar. He emphasized that the band aims to promote Ofutop culture and provide its members a chance to display their talents to a diverse audience.
Ntun stated that the band has completed all necessary registration and received approval from the relevant authorities. He believes that the carnival will allow the Ekuum Cultural Band to share traditional music and stories that have been passed down through generations.
“Our participation is not just about entertainment. It is also about telling the story of our people and preserving our cultural heritage,” Ntun said. Recently honored as the Calabar Heritage “Young Achiever of the Year,” he is passionate about promoting indigenous culture.
Ntun also mentioned that the band aims to inspire younger generations to appreciate their cultural roots amidst changing social trends. The Ekuum Cultural Band plans to blend professionalism with traditional expressions to make their performance both entertaining and representative of the Ofutop identity.
He expressed hope that their debut will enhance the cultural diversity of Carnival Calabar 2026 and provide the Ofutop Nation a platform to share its story through music and performances.
