Delta State Warns Against Fake Tax Notices and Fraudulent Collectors

The Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS) has issued a warning to taxpayers about fake tax demand notices. These notices are being sent by individuals who are illegally collecting money in the name of the state government.

Solomon Ighrakpata, the Chairman of the DSIRS, made this announcement on Tuesday. He stated that these fraudulent activities could lead to significant financial losses for taxpayers and revenue leakages for the state.

Ighrakpata emphasized that the DSIRS has not authorized anyone to issue tax demand notices or collect taxes outside of its official channels. He urged taxpayers and businesses to verify any tax notices or payment requests they receive before making any payments.

He advised the public to only use officially approved payment methods and to report any suspicious tax demands or individuals claiming to be DSIRS officials. The DSIRS is collaborating with law enforcement to track down and prosecute those involved in these fraudulent activities.

The chairman warned that such scams could damage trust in the state’s tax system and divert funds intended for public services and government projects. He reassured taxpayers that the DSIRS is committed to maintaining the integrity of the state’s revenue collection process and ensuring transparent tax administration.
