President Tinubu Proposes Stronger Laws Against Hard Drugs in Nigeria
President Bola Tinubu has sent three important bills to the House of Representatives. These bills focus on improving drug law enforcement, enhancing transport safety, and developing leadership in government.
One of the key bills is the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Bill, 2026. This bill aims to replace older laws related to drug enforcement and create a new legal framework for controlling drugs in Nigeria. It would give the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency more power to investigate people suspected of dealing with illegal drugs.
The second bill is the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (Amendment) Bill, 2026. This proposal seeks to expand the Bureau’s responsibilities beyond just aviation safety to include rail and maritime transport. It also aims to make the Bureau more independent and strengthen its operations.
The third bill is the National School of Government Bill, 2026. This bill plans to create a new institution focused on leadership training and policy implementation for government officials. It would replace an older law and aim to improve the skills of government personnel.
President Tinubu has urged lawmakers to quickly consider these bills to enhance drug enforcement and safety measures in the country.
