Defence Minister Says Military Efforts Are Improving Nigeria’s Security

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), announced that ongoing military operations are helping to improve security in Nigeria. He made these remarks during a speech at the 56th Annual Accountants’ Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in Abuja.

Musa emphasized that restoring stability in Nigeria’s economic areas, agricultural regions, and industrial zones is crucial for attracting investors. He stated that national security is essential for economic growth, noting that no investor will commit money where safety is not guaranteed.

He acknowledged the various security challenges the country faces, such as attacks on communities and kidnappings. However, he assured that the Armed Forces are working hard to reclaim vulnerable areas and protect economic activities.

To align security efforts with the government’s economic goals, Musa outlined five key priorities. These include protecting important economic assets, promoting good governance, ensuring financial discipline in defense, enhancing cybersecurity, and building domestic defense industries.

Additionally, Musa announced the creation of a joint committee between the Ministry of Defence and ICAN. This committee aims to improve training for military personnel in financial management and to develop better systems for combating terrorism financing.

He praised ICAN for its dedication to financial transparency, stating that a secure environment and good financial practices are vital for Nigeria’s future economic success. The conference brought together accountants, policymakers, and business leaders to discuss these important issues.
