Customs Seize ₦79 Million Worth of Smuggled Goods in Adamawa

The Nigeria Customs Service has seized goods worth nearly ₦80 million in Adamawa State. This includes Premium Motor Spirit (fuel), foreign parboiled rice, and other items. The seizures took place during operations aimed at stopping smuggling in the region.

At a press conference in Yola, Area Comptroller Mohammed Tako explained that these actions are part of their ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and support the country’s economy. He noted that in just two months, customs officers discovered various contraband goods hidden in remote areas.

During one operation, officers found 451 cartons of foreign soap hidden near the River Benue. The smugglers fled when they saw customs officers approaching.

On August 20, 2026, officers intercepted 374 jerrycans of fuel along a path near the Nigeria-Cameroon border. Later, on September 14, they stopped a truck carrying 116 bags of foreign rice and other items. This operation was based on reliable information.

Further operations led to the discovery of more fuel and rice, as well as second-hand clothing intended for smuggling. In total, customs officials reported seizing 673 jerrycans of fuel, 501 cartons of soap, and 266 bags of rice, among other items.

Tako emphasized the importance of community cooperation in fighting smuggling and urged local leaders to work with customs and security agencies for the betterment of the economy.
