Brigadier General Braimah and 18 Soldiers Killed in Midnight Boko Haram Raid on Benisheikh Base; Tinubu Hails Fallen Troops as ‘Unforgettable Heroes’

The Nigerian military is reeling from a massive “Tsunami” of grief following a coordinated terrorist strike in Borno State that has claimed the life of one of its top field commanders. The Defence Headquarters confirmed that Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah was killed during a midnight assault on the 29 Task Force Brigade in Benisheikh. The “Solution” to the insurgent threat turned into a bloody standoff as the General personally led the charge to prevent the base from being completely decimated.

The “Renewed Hope” for security in the Northeast was tested as fighters from both Boko Haram and ISWAP reportedly combined forces for the raid. According to military sources, the terrorists used the cover of darkness to launch a “Drill or Drop” offensive, using heavy machine guns and improvised explosives to breach the perimeter. While the official line from Abuja is that the attack was “thwarted with superior firepower,” local reports indicate that the base suffered significant damage and several military vehicles were destroyed or carted away before the Air Force could drive the attackers back into the Sambisa forest.

President Bola Tinubu, in a heartfelt condolence message from the State House, urged the Armed Forces not to “lose heart” over the loss. “General Braimah made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our country,” the President stated. “The insurgents’ counter-attack is a sign of desperation as our troops continue to neutralize their commanders.” This loss is particularly painful as it marks the second high-ranking officer killed in the region in just five months, following the death of Brigadier General Musa Uba last November.

As the military begins “tinker”ing with its security architecture in the Kaga Local Government Area, the atmosphere in Maiduguri remains tense. The fallen soldiers were evacuated by air on Thursday morning, leaving behind a community in mourning. For the Nigerian Army, the message is one of defiance: while a pillar has fallen, the mission to eradicate the “digital trenches” of terrorism in the Northeast remains the top priority.
