Benue APC Criticizes Assault on Electricity Workers, Calls for Government Action

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has condemned the reported assault and abduction of workers from Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED) in Makurdi. This incident, which took place on Wednesday, has disrupted electricity supply across the state, leaving many residents and businesses without power.

According to a statement from Daniel-Morgan Ihomun, a member of the APC, about 50 youths allegedly invaded JED’s office, assaulted staff, and kidnapped 10 workers. The party criticized the state government for not addressing the situation properly.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Solomon Iorpev, dismissed the allegations as unfounded. However, the APC stated that no government should resort to violence or intimidation over disputes related to electricity bills.

The party expressed concern over the impact of the attack, noting that small businesses, healthcare facilities, and households are suffering due to the power outages. They called for an urgent resolution to restore electricity and for the government to apologize to JED and its workers.

Additionally, the APC urged the state government to investigate the reported illegal connections and settle any outstanding electricity bills. They emphasized the need for a fair claims process for those affected by the disruptions.

The statement also highlighted the importance of addressing political violence and ensuring that those responsible for the attack are held accountable. The APC called for responsible leadership and a peaceful resolution to disputes, stressing that ordinary citizens should not suffer due to conflicts between the government and utility companies.
