Barau FC Celebrates Promotion with N17.5m, Motorcycles for Players

In a grand gesture to celebrate their historic promotion to Nigeria’s top flight, the players of Barau FC have been rewarded with a sum of ₦17.5 million and 35 brand-new motorcycles. The generous gifts were presented by the club’s founder and sponsor, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.

The rewards were announced at a reception held in Kano on Monday, August 11, 2025, to honor the players and management for their hard-earned promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Barau FC, a privately-owned club, secured their spot in the NPFL for the first time in their history after a successful run in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 Playoffs last month.

During the ceremony, Senator Jibrin announced that each of the 35 players who secured the promotion would receive a cash prize of ₦500,000 and a new motorcycle. The Deputy Senate President, who represents Kano North, praised the team for their “remarkable achievement” and described their success as a victory for Nigerian youth.

“There is no doubt the club has witnessed a remarkable achievement within a short period,” Senator Jibrin said. “Your success is a victory for the Nigerian youth… Football is not just a game, but a means of earning a living. We want to take you to the international stage.”

The event also featured the unveiling of the team’s new Technical Adviser, Ladan Bosso, as the club prepares for its debut season in the top tier. With the promotion of Barau FC, Kano State will now be represented by two teams in the NPFL, a development that is expected to boost football enthusiasm in the region.
