Authorities Discover Underground Tunnels at Drug Hideout in Delta State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has found underground tunnels at a suspected drug hideout in Asaba, Delta State. This discovery happened during an operation on October 12 at a location known as Fallingwater Colehouse.

According to the NSCDC, operatives spent several days trying to enter the building. They eventually had to use a blowtorch to cut through the roof. The Public Relations Officer, DSC Anthony Akachukwu, described the hideout as heavily fortified, with multiple layers of iron doors and tunnels that the suspects used to escape.

During the operation, several suspects managed to flee, raising concerns that the site might be involved in more than just drug-related activities. Akachukwu mentioned that the investigation could also look into possible links to kidnapping, although this has not yet been confirmed.

The NSCDC recovered substances known locally as “Loud” and “Ice,” along with other materials linked to drug dealing. A man named Yakubu was arrested after he arrived to buy drugs, mistakenly thinking an operative was a seller.

Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected. The NSCDC is also looking into a notebook found at the scene, which allegedly contains entries about payments made to security personnel, although the authenticity of this document has not been verified.

A local resident reported unusual activity at the site for years, claiming that customers could buy drugs without directly meeting suppliers. The resident urged the government to demolish the building and seal the tunnels to prevent future operations.

Akachukwu stated that the NSCDC is investigating the ownership of the property but will not disclose details until confirmed. The area will remain under surveillance as the investigation continues.
