Fashion designer Anthony Vaccarello is leaving his role at Saint Laurent after ten years. His departure follows a successful period for the brand, which saw a rise in revenue and a celebrated final show featuring gold-themed outfits.
The parent company of Saint Laurent, Kering, praised Vaccarello for his contributions. They noted that he helped strengthen the brand’s identity and influence in fashion and culture. However, the company did not provide a reason for his exit.
Kering’s CEO, Luca de Meo, acknowledged Vaccarello’s creative vision and high standards. He mentioned that the company is preparing for a new chapter in the brand’s history and will announce new leadership soon.
Vaccarello, who is 44 years old, hinted at his departure during his last show in Paris. In a message to guests, he wrote, “What passes sometimes leaves more light than what remains.” He also shared a farewell video on his Instagram account.
Speculation about his successor has begun, with Chemena Kamali, the current artistic director at Chloe, being mentioned as a potential candidate. This change comes amid challenges in the global luxury market, particularly due to reduced demand from China.
Vaccarello’s time at Saint Laurent was marked by significant growth, with the brand’s revenues tripling during his tenure. However, sales have recently declined as consumer habits shifted post-COVID.
His designs attracted a wide range of celebrity fans, including Kate Moss and Dua Lipa, and he also led the brand into film production, co-producing movies like the hit musical “Emilia Perez.” Reflecting on his decade at the brand, Vaccarello described it as a privilege and an intense experience.
