SDP Candidate Adebayo Calls for Action Against Killings in Plateau State

Prince Adewole Adebayo, who is running for president in 2027 with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has condemned the recent killings in Plateau State and other areas of Nigeria. He is calling on Governor Caleb Mutfwang to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of residents.

Adebayo criticized the Federal Government’s response to insecurity, stating that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has not adequately addressed the security issues facing the country. His comments were made in a statement released in Abuja on Monday by his media adviser, Comrade Mark Adebayo.

Expressing sorrow over the violence, Adebayo noted that hundreds of people have reportedly been killed in attacks across communities in Plateau State from January to October 2026. He emphasized that these victims are not just numbers; they are individuals whose deaths have deeply affected families and communities.

Adebayo also criticized a previous meeting held by Governor Mutfwang with residents affected by violence, where the governor spoke from inside an armored vehicle. He described this as disrespectful to the victims and their families, insisting that leaders should show themselves and provide reassurance to those suffering from violence.

He urged both state and federal governments to use available resources to protect vulnerable communities, stating, “The time for empty press statements and crocodile tears is over. Stop the killings now!” Adebayo believes that insecurity hinders economic development, as people cannot engage in productive activities without safety.

He proposed a security plan that aims to strengthen security institutions, restore government control over affected areas, and tackle the social issues that lead to crime. Adebayo concluded that the security and welfare of the people should be the foundation of all government actions, as safety is essential for economic prosperity.
