Senate Urges Caution on Tinubu’s Certificate Issue Amid Keyamo and Atiku’s Divergent Views

“Atiku Alleges Tinubu’s Concealment of Forgeries, Keyamo Challenges Proof, Senators Emphasize Caution and Justice”

The 107 former senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who make up the APC Non-Serving Senators Group, have thrown their support behind President Bola Tinubu in light of the Chicago State University (CSU) certificate controversy. They emphasize the importance of maintaining dignity and exercising caution during challenging times.

Former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has challenged President Tinubu’s election at the Supreme Court. Atiku recently obtained Tinubu’s academic records from CSU through the courts in the United States and filed them at the apex court. He is seeking Tinubu’s removal from office based on allegations of certificate forgery and perjury, among other charges.

Atiku argued that the certified deposition made by Caleb Westberg on behalf of CSU disavowed the certificate Tinubu presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2023 presidential election. He believes that the presentation of a forged certificate to INEC by a presidential candidate is a serious constitutional matter that should be considered by the courts, which are the guardians of the Constitution.

The certificate controversy has sparked a heated debate in the political landscape, with some supporting President Tinubu and others opposing him.

Responding to Atiku’s accusations, a prominent member of the APC and Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN, argued that Atiku cannot prove the forgery allegations against Tinubu unless the vendor that printed Tinubu’s CSU certificate denies its authenticity. In a tweet, Keyamo expressed his view that some comments on this issue lack merit and should not be dignified with a response.

Amidst the controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s alleged Chicago State University (CSU) certificate forgery, 107 former senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), united under the banner of the APC Non-Serving Senators Group, have called for prudence and adherence to the rule of law and principles of justice in handling the matter.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has challenged President Tinubu’s election at the Supreme Court. Atiku recently obtained Tinubu’s academic records from CSU through the United States courts and submitted them to the apex court. He seeks Tinubu’s removal from office on grounds of alleged certificate forgery and perjury, among other charges.

Atiku claims that the Registrar of Chicago State University, Caleb Westberg, in a deposition, confirmed that CSU did not have an authentic copy of the diploma issued to Tinubu in 1979, and thus, Tinubu falsified documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and swore a false affidavit to support the forgery.

Responding to Atiku’s allegations, Festus Keyamo, a prominent member of the APC and Minister of Aviation, argued that Atiku cannot prove his forgery claims against Tinubu unless the vendor responsible for Tinubu’s CSU certificate denies its authenticity.

In contrast, President Tinubu’s supporters insist that he graduated from CSU, despite the absence of solid evidence to support this claim. They contend that the issue centers on integrity and morality and call on the public to exercise patience, allow the legal process to unfold, and refrain from making hasty judgments on social media.

The 107 non-serving APC senators underscore the importance of the rule of law and caution in dealing with these allegations. They express their trust in the judicial process and believe that President Tinubu, a dedicated leader, will emerge from this challenge with his integrity intact.

They cite examples of world leaders who faced unfounded allegations during their careers, emphasizing the power of truth, character, and resilience in leadership. They call on Nigerians to support President Tinubu and have faith in his commitment to the nation’s progress.

In conclusion, they stress that unity and the pursuit of justice are paramount for the strength and progress of Nigeria, and they stand firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
