Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called for increased protection of children, regardless of their social class or status. The call comes as Nigeria prepares to celebrate Children’s Day in 2023.
In a statement jointly signed by the state chairperson, Motunrayo Ayegbayo, and the Secretary, Abisola Ariwodola, NAWOJ expressed joy and described children as the future generations of the state. The organization emphasized the importance of celebrating and promoting the welfare and rights of children, highlighting their significance in society.
NAWOJ urged parents, the government, and society as a whole to recognize children as the building blocks of the future and to prioritize their security, welfare, and development. The statement emphasized that parents have a crucial role in fostering the cultural, educational, emotional, and religious growth of children, and it urged them not to neglect this responsibility.
The organization also commended the government and stakeholders for their efforts in developing child-oriented programs and providing a conducive environment for children. It called on parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure the protection of children from assault, harassment, rape, and other forms of harm. Additionally, NAWOJ urged security agents to intensify their efforts to safeguard children in Osun State.
As Children’s Day approaches, NAWOJ’s plea for enhanced child protection serves as a reminder of the importance of nurturing and safeguarding the well-being of children in Nigerian society.
