Wike Denies Role in Court Ruling Against Uzodinma’s Candidacy
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has denied any involvement in a recent court ruling that invalidated the recognition of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Imo-West senatorial district in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Wike spoke during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he described the allegations linking him to the court decision as misleading. He emphasized that he did not participate in the legal proceedings and is not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He noted that the accusations arose after Uzodinma publicly criticized the Rainbow Coalition, a political group supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. Wike questioned Uzodinma’s fear of this coalition, asking, “What is Hope Uzodinma afraid of in the Rainbow Coalition?”
Wike stated that the coalition aims to ensure Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election, while other factors, such as zoning, will influence decisions at the National Assembly level. He also addressed his relationship with former Imo governor Rochas Okorocha, asserting that he would not harm friends over political affiliations.
Regarding the 2027 presidential race, Wike expressed skepticism about the prospects of Rotimi Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, citing his past performance in office as problematic. Wike stated, “His candidacy is dead on arrival.”
Wike defended his political strategy, explaining that he has allocated 13 seats to the APC and three to the PDP, based on discussions over the last two years. He emphasized the importance of leadership in guiding and informing supporters about their roles.
