Kwara State Seeks Partnerships to Enhance Livestock Production

The Kwara State Government is looking to partner with private investors to boost livestock production and enhance the dairy industry. This initiative was announced by the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Oloruntoyosi Thomas, following a meeting with FrieslandCampina WAMCO, a key player in Nigeria’s dairy sector.

During the meeting, both sides discussed potential collaborations in agriculture and livestock. Thomas emphasized that these partnerships could help local farmers adopt modern farming techniques, increase productivity, and expand their roles in the dairy market.

She noted that the collaboration could also support small and medium-sized businesses, create jobs, and improve the livelihoods of farmers by connecting them with private companies. Thomas highlighted the importance of engaging local farmers and stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of agricultural investments reach communities.

Thomas stated, “One of the key areas of interest was the potential for stronger collaboration with local farmers and other stakeholders in the livestock sector.” She added that the government cannot achieve significant economic growth without the help of private organizations that can provide investment and expertise.

The meeting also focused on finding practical solutions to challenges in agriculture while creating a supportive environment for businesses. Thomas expressed confidence that working with FrieslandCampina WAMCO could lead to valuable opportunities for the livestock sector and the state’s economy.

She acknowledged that more work is needed to turn discussions into actionable partnerships but reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the livestock industry and empowering farmers for a better future in Kwara State.
