Shettima Promises Economic Growth in Second Term for Tinubu Administration
Vice President Kashim Shettima addressed a rally in Calabar, Cross River State, on November 2, 2026, where he emphasized that a second term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would lead to a period of economic growth for Nigeria.
Shettima urged Nigerians to vote for Tinubu in the upcoming election on January 16, 2027. He claimed that no other political party could match the current government’s economic plans. He acknowledged that recent reforms have caused temporary hardship but assured citizens that the economy would improve, drawing comparisons to Singapore’s successful transformation.
At the rally, Shettima was joined by several All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, including the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He pointed out that Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, implemented policies that turned the nation into a global financial center, suggesting that Nigeria could follow a similar path.
Shettima also highlighted the importance of Cross River State in the upcoming elections, stating that its support for the APC would lead to more federal development projects. He called on voters to renew the mandates of Tinubu, Cross River Governor Bassey Otu, and other APC candidates.
Governor Otu, speaking at the rally, mentioned key federal projects that could enhance Cross River’s economy, such as the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway and the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport. He emphasized that these projects would create jobs and boost tourism.
Yilwatda praised Tinubu as a leader capable of driving transformation and encouraged residents to support all APC candidates. He assured that the North would back Tinubu’s bid for a second term, dismissing any doubts about his support.
