Arsenal Defeats Slavia Prague 2-1, Sets New Away Record in Champions League
Arsenal climbed to third place in the UEFA Champions League after a 2-1 win against Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic on Wednesday. This victory marked a club record, extending their unbeaten away streak in the competition to 10 matches.
Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyökeres scored for Arsenal, giving them a two-goal lead before halftime. However, Wiktor Nowak’s late goal for Slavia Prague made the ending tense as they sought to equalize.
Madueke opened the scoring just nine minutes into the match. He received a pass from Gyökeres, who held off a defender and set him up to score. Gyökeres then doubled the lead in the 38th minute, curling the ball into the net after a series of passes with Mikel Merino.
Arsenal had opportunities to extend their lead further, with Merino coming close on a few occasions. After halftime, Slavia Prague increased their attacking efforts, forcing Arsenal’s goalkeeper, David Raya, to make several crucial saves.
Despite Slavia’s pressure, Arsenal held firm until the 90th minute when Nowak scored, reducing the deficit. This goal led to five minutes of stoppage time, during which Slavia continued to look for an equalizer, but Arsenal managed to secure the win.
With this win, Arsenal now has 10 points from four matches in the Champions League. They will next face Hull City at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, aiming for their fifth consecutive victory in the Premier League.
